Accept online rent payment

In this section, you can set up and start accepting online payments.

You can create and send invoices to your tenants, giving them the option to pay online using their payment card, bank account, or PayPal account. When online payments are activated, your tenants will receive your invoices and see a “Pay” button. By clicking on this button, they can settle their bills online.

Accepting payments via Stripe

Stripe is a global online payment service that simplifies payments by credit card and bank transfer.
To link Stripe to Rentila, follow these steps:

Note!

Accepting payments by credit card (Stripe) requires setting up a business account to receive funds. However, your tenants don’t need to create a Stripe account to make payments by credit card or bank transfer. For more information and to open a Stripe account, click here.

To link Stripe to Rentila, follow these steps:

  • Go to “My Account”, “Online Rent Payment” from your Rentila account.
  • On Stripe, click on “Settings”.
  • Select the landlord (if you have multiple), then click on “Connect”.
  • Follow the procedure and provide the requested details.
  • Link an existing account or create a new one.

Once your Stripe account is linked, you can accept online payments. To know about Stripe’s transaction fees, visit their website.

Accepting payments via PayPal

PayPal is a global online payment service provider offering an alternative to cheque, transfer, or card payments.

Note!

Accepting payments via PayPal requires setting up a business account to receive funds. Tenants don’t need a PayPal account to pay. For more information and to open a PayPal account, click here.

To link PayPal to Rentila, follow these steps:

  • Go to “My Account”, “Online Rent Payment” from your Rentila account.
  • On PayPal, click on “Settings”.
  • Select the landlord (if you have multiple), then click on “Connect”.
  • Follow the procedure and provide the requested details, including the Client ID and Secret Key, which you can find in your PayPal account under the developer interface.

Once your PayPal account is linked, you can accept online payments. To know about PayPal’s transaction fees, visit their website.

Accepting payments via GoCardless

GoCardless is a global online payment service that simplifies payments by transfer and direct debit.

Note!

Accepting payments by transfer or direct debit (GoCardless) requires setting up a business account to receive funds. However, your tenants don’t need a GoCardless account to make a payment. For more details and to open a GOCARDLESS account, click here.

To link GoCardless to Rentila, follow these steps:

  • From your Rentila account, go to My Account, Online Rent Payment.
  • On GoCardless, click on Settings.
  • Select the landlord (if you have several), then click on Connect.
  • Follow the procedure and provide the requested details.
  • Link an existing account or set up a new one.

Once your GoCardless account is linked, you can accept online payments. To find out about GoCardless’ transaction fees, visit their website.

Payment procedure for the tenant

In the “Receipts” section of the tenant account, the tenant has the “Pay” action. Clicking on this button takes the tenant to the payment page, displaying:

  • The rent amount due,
  • The available payment options,
  • The “Pay” button.

You can also send a direct link to the invoice and payment page, available in the “Finances” section. Once payment is made, the rent status changes to “Paid” in your account, and you receive an email notification.

Payment processing times

Please note that credit card and PayPal payments are usually instant, while transfers or direct debits might take between 2 to 8 working days to be credited to your account.
