# Create, edit or delete an automation rule

### Create a rule

To create a rule template for adding and classifying transactions automatically, follow these simple steps: go to the “Bank import” section, click the “Automation” icon at the top right, then the “New rule” button.

When you create a rule, every matching transaction will be classified automatically according to the predefined criteria.

For each rule, you can define the following information:

- The **owner**.
- The **property**.
- The **tenancy agreement**.
- The **type**.
- The **payee**.

The trigger criteria:

- The **keyword(s)**.
- The **amount**.
- The **description**.
- The **status**, active or inactive.

### Automated entry

After the import, the system will automatically add to the “Finance” section, and classify, the transactions that match the predefined rules.

A match is considered exact when the amount, the dates and one or more keywords of the imported transaction correspond to an active rule.

When you confirm and add a transaction to “Finance”, an “Already added” indicator appears. If you make a mistake, you can reset transactions that have already been matched, and match them again.

Example

If every month you receive an EDF bill of £29 with a bank transaction containing the description “PRELVT SEPA RECU D/O EDF clients ICS.FR47EBE002009 .RUM.MM9760393916780008”, you can create an automatic recognition rule.

You can set the rule up as follows:

Property: My property

Amount: £29

Type: Electricity

Keywords: EDF, FR47EBE002009, MM9760393916780008

Payee: EDF

Then, when this transaction is imported:

the system detects the keyword “EDF” in the description,

automatically classifies the transaction as an electricity expense for the property concerned,

and adds it to the Finance section for that property, with the predefined type and payee.

For this automation to work correctly, the amount and the keywords of the transaction must match the criteria defined in the rule.

Why can I not create automation rules for rent income?

Rentila already applies dedicated, specific automation logic to rent management.

When you import your bank transactions, the Rentila system automatically compares the amounts and descriptions with the unpaid rents. If it finds an exact match (equal amount and a description including, for example, the tenant’s name), it automatically links the transaction to the rent concerned, marks the rent as paid, and notifies you by email.

Consequently, to avoid duplicates, allocation errors and confusion between this built-in automation and any manual rules, creating custom automation rules is not allowed for income of the “Rent” type.

This guarantees consistent handling of your receipts and more reliable tracking of your rental payments.
